Diamondback Industries Setting Tools

A setting tool is a mechanical device that converts gas pressure produced by a burning explosive powder charge to hydraulic force. This hydraulic force is then converted to mechanical energy to set various downhole equipment in casing or tubing. A wireline setting tool can be used to set:

alt
a) Production Packers
b) Bridge Plugs
c) Cement Retainers
d) Casing Patches
e) Tubing Plugs

The company uses three sizes of Baker setting tools: the Baker #5 tool, Baker #10 tool, and the Baker #20 tool. The size of tool depends on the size of tubing or casing the downhole equipment will be set in. The #05 tool is used for tubing equipment while the #10 and #20 tools are used for equipment set in casing.

The tool works by first applying electrical current down the wireline. The current ignites the BP-3, which ignites the Secondary Igniter, and in turn ignites the Power Charge. The power charge completely burns, creating gas pressure from 7,000 to 13,000 psi. The gas pressure causes the Floating Piston to move down forcing oil below the piston to move through the cylinder connector. As the oil moves down, the bottom piston also moves down. Connected below the piston is the piston rod with a slot in the rod that holds the cross link. The function of the cross link is to transfer the mechanical energy from the inside of the tool to the outside of the setting tool. The downward movement of the setting sleeve forces the outside of the plug down while the adapter rod and shear stud remain stationary, holding the inner parts and body of the plug. The top slips are driven down onto the steel cone beneath them, are expanded and set securely into the casing. The sealing equipment expands to seal off the casing and the bottom slips are set. Finally, the ratchet lock-ring secures the dynamic force of the plug and the tool can be sheared from the release stud and removed from the borehole.

Diamondback Industries Setting ToolsDiamondback Industries Baker Style Setting Tools are machined 100% in house.  This enables us to monitor material specs and to put every part through our complete inspection process.  We use U.S. made steel on every machined part.  We have an inspection process that closely checks all machined dimensions and metallurgy test on all materials used.  All threads meet or exceed API standards and are gauged out with precision ground gauges during production.  All tools are stroked using pneumatics to ensure proper travel. All parts are black oxide plated to prevent corrosion.  Diamondback Industries Baker Style Setting Tools are the solution to make your cased- hole operations run smoothly.
